Glenn is the frontman of Squeeze, the band he formed with his songwriting partner Chris Difford in the summer of 1973. In a career that tasted early critical and commercial fame in the U.K. and U.S. with albums such as ‘Cool for Cats’ ‘Argy Bargy’ and ‘East Side Story’, the band were loved and respected for their strand of timeless, literate pop music. , They broke up in 1982 needing a very big rest only to reform 3 years later. 1987 saw the release of their largest selling album in the U.S., ‘Babylon and on’. From that point on, Squeeze made albums that artistically got better, (’Frank’, ‘Play’ and ‘Some Fantastic Place’) but commercially fared worse. Time, (and the promotional budgets of the major labels) was not on their side. Squeeze disintegrated into a star trek like pile of minerals and salt in 1998. Since then Glenn Tilbrook has been touring extensively in the UK, America, Australia and Japan as a solo artist, and in the U.K. and U.S. with his band The Fluffers. 2001 saw the release of his first solo album, The Incomplete Glenn Tilbrook, 2004 his 2nd, Transatlantic Ping Pong, both critically acclaimed. In 2006 came the release of Amy Pickards feature length documentary Glenn Tilbrook: One For The Road about life as a touring musician on the road in the US. Glenn is currently working with The Fluffers on his 3rd solo album due for release next year.

In a strange twist of fate April of this year saw the start of a re-release campaign by Universal and Warners of the entire Squeeze back catalogue. These releases are something that Chris and Glenn are very proud of and so in tribute to themselves they decided to reform Squeeze. Their eight years away was enough to elevate their status from quite good to legendary and in July and August they played a sold out tour of the U.S. They are now looking forward to touring, post everest, in November and December around the UK.

Happy 50th, Glenn! You wear it well, fella.
During your recent U.S. tour with Squeeze, you did something very sweet and wonderfully unexpected for me. (You put my friends, who I treated to the show, and me on your guest list for the gig at Long Island’s North Fork Theatre.) I was (and still am!) gobsmacked by your generosity and wanted to reciprocate by doing something special for you on your birthday. I am delighted to make a donation to the Love Hope Strength Foundation on your behalf and wish you a day that’s chock-a-block with family, friends, love and laughter. Oh, and brilliant prezzies, too!

Really proud of you and Nick and the others doing something so worthwhile (and cool)… I wouldn’t be able to do what you’re doing (good cause or not) so massive props to ya! See you in Glasgow in November, can’t wait to hear the tales… Hugs and good vibes (and a belated happy b-day), Paula

Hi Glenn - Wow! I was totally speechless to read about this. I am in awe of both you and Nick. The nearest I’ve got to charity fundraising dates back to collecting stamps and silver foil for the ’70s Blue Peter appeals. Best of luck to you both and hope you enjoy the experience. Love Zaena x

Glenn, you taught me how to sing and play guitar (we sound alot alike vocally but I can’t always play your licks!!) and now you’re teaching me how to live and love. God bless you and your endless spirit and talent. All the best.

This shows you are an amazing human being in addition to an amazing artist. Anyone can donate money (which I will do in your name) but donating time and talent is something else. Good luck to you and your feet, enjoy the experience. Love, hugs and Squeezes, Lori oxox

Hi Glenn, I am totally envious- have done loads of mountaineering after managing too to give up the cigs, but still to do Everest. (even BC @ 17000 ft.). Great cause, let me know how to contribute.
Now you’ll be able to play that Hendrix solo and AND reveal your new-look belly to the madding crowds!
Get Gilson up there too and I’ll be very impressed!

Hi Glenn!
All the best wishes for this venture, which I am happy to support with £20. But PLEASE make sure that you return healthy and well, as I have tickets for the Squeeze gig in Glasgow and it would really spoil my day if you broke your neck or anything like that before Nov 30
Best Wishes and “thank you for the music”

Dear Glenn,
This will be an amazing gig and I admire you for your dedication to such a good cause.
I was thrilled to see you this summer with Squeeze at The Beacon in NY, and it was a pleasure to meet you at the Meet & Greet afterward. I also enjoyed your NJ show at the Starland Ballroom. You showered the US with your musical magic this summer and now you are showering the world with your generosity as well.
Hope you had a wonderful 50th birthday. “Everest Rocks” will certainly add to the special memories of your 50th year! Wishing you all the best in this musical adventure, and I will be donating in your name.
Lots of love and appreciation,
Regina

Hey Glenn, Just added a donation…you are inspiring! It’s a lot of training I’m sure. Last Sunday I completed a 100-mile bike ride for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in the US, so I can feel a bit of the emotion that goes with something like this. It will be an incredible experience in a beautiful part of the world. Savor every moment. Thanks for all you do. Love Julie

Hello Glenn. Well, this weekend, England beat Estonia 3-0 at Wembley, the England cricket team may have lost to Sri Lanka in the final one day match but still won the series 3-2 for the first time in about 20 years and the England Rugby team somehow pulled it out of the bag and are now in the World Cup Final, again! Our sportsmen are performing heroics but so are you which is far more inspirational and impressive. You are achieving something truly magnificent so keep going and keep enjoying the whole glorious experience. By the way, you might like to know that Charlton Athletic received a mention and a cheer on ‘The News Quiz’ this weekend too!
Keep going, keep climbing, keep smiling.

Hi, a fan of you and squeeze long time.
Had cancer 2 years ago, and being investigated for re-currence so worrying a bit. Read Jools book and thought I needed a squeeze moment - found out your doing this trek thing and feeling inspired by what your doing. Give it some welly with that guitar but not enough to cause an avalanche!
Hoping to see you in Bristol - be awesome xx

Hiya Glenn, hey, just look at those views and those mountains. Looking and sounding good on the pod casts! And if your legs, feet and back are aching just think of what you have achieved so far and the monumental generosity of what you all will have achieved come the end of your historic and heroic trek. Have to say that I’d swap your nice sensible walking boots for teetering in high heels on a raked stage any day and in a beehive too. The Mari Wilson look is making a comeback in Birmingham, now that’s just what I always wanted! Hey, the things you do for Art, for Music and for the Love of Life.
KEEP GOING GLENN, YOU’RE ALL LOOKING FANTASTIC, GUYS!!!
