Mike Peters’ Blog |

Mike Peters is known primarily as lead singer and songwriter of internationally acclaimed Welsh rock and roll band, The Alarm. He is also a cancer survivor two times over. Mike has successfully fought The Big C on two occasions; once in 1995 when he battled Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and more recently in 2006 when he was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocyte Leukemia (CLL). Throughout a six month spell of high dose chemotherapy, Mike Peters continued to play and perform with his band The Alarm, taking to the stage each time in his trademark ‘green’ combat fatigues (which became his health talisman after a faith healer gave him the revelation that ‘green’ was the healing color in his life). Mike Peters subsequently led The Alarm back into the U.K. Top 30 in February, with the stomping ‘Superchannel’ and orchestrated the international release of ‘Under Attack’ (The Alarm’s most recent album), to worldwide critical acclaim.
“Mike Peters – On the Road to Recovery”, a revealing BBC documentary chronicling Mike’s inspiring story, was screened in October 2006. The cameras were allowed into the treatment and dressing rooms of Mike’s life throughout the last six months of his cancer fight. The filming also included Mike and his wife Jules in their successful struggle to conceive a child through IVF. Evan Michael Peters was born January 1, 2007.
Mike Peters formed The Alarm in Rhyl, North Wales, in 1981 and has led the band to hit records in each of the three decades since: 16 UK hit singles (68 Guns, Where Were You Hiding When The Storm Broke, Spirit Of ‘76, Rain In The Summertime, 45 R.P.M. etc.), and a host of successful albums with over 5 million sales worldwide. Mike Peters has appeared with or been joined on stage by such rock and roll luminaries as U2, Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

Mike, I’m humbled by your courage and perseverance. This is a remarkable thing that you are doing — a great way to live beyond yourself. I saw the Alarm when I was a junior at the University of Kansas in 1987. You don’t remember me … but, I do remember you. It was a great show … filled with intense passion … something that I could relate to. I guess in a round about way my passion is what inspired me to become a live kidney donor to a young boy that I did not know. We never know whether or not we are really alive until we put ourselves to the test. Be well. Be strong. Give life … and in the words of another Welsh poet: Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night. Blessings!!

Hey Mike, I have been a fan of yours for a very long time. I have followed your career and kept up with what you were doing when you were doing solo shows. When your health declined and you kept fighting , I thought what passion , what courage , what strentgh you had, the drive inside you was the same you showed on stage when you played. The courage and perseverence you show to keep living and not letting anything bring you down is really something. I admire that. Good luck with the climb and all the best with your family . May God watch over you and keep you safe.

Mike,
Having seen The Alarm in Chicago in ‘84 open for the Pretenders, and just a few weeks ago in San Diego on the Rock the Colonies tour, I am humbled by your energy, courage and strength. You rocked the stage and crowd harder now than 23 years ago, even having been through physical hell recently. Be well, be safe, and as another hero of mine, Warren Zevon said, “enjoy every sandwich.”
May the road rise with you,
Donald

I wanted to say “WOW” I have seen the light myself..I had a tumor enlarged in my pancreaus they gave me three to six months.. I am in remission! I went through hell at the time I was signed by Epic and lost the contract due to my illness. My doctor at Mass General Hospital also tried to save Ben Orr from The Car’s who past and I will not forget my doctor Warshaw he came in to tell me I was going to make it and then had to tell me Ben had past, and he told me to continue my life dream. In which I had to give up! Due to the aging in this bussiness you have to be a success at a young age…I have open acts such as Aerosmith, Joe Perry Project, Meatloaf and so many others I could not type them all..However, I give my thanks to “The Late Stevie Ray Vaughn”, who gave me my start in opening up for him when I was 16 and that’s how I got to know so many people and move on to making my dream come true to have it ripped out from me in night like the reapper who tried to take not only my Life and got just my dreams of my stage..at the time my husband stood by me wiped my ass when needed, lifted my head out of the toilet and carried me for months. He wishes I would give it another shot! However, since it took so much out of me I don’t know where to begin. I would love nothing more than to have my husband see me on stage where we met once again or in a studio one more time he doesn’t know how it truly is and yet he believes in me still.. Because he came across your story he lead me here to write to you in hopes that I would restart my own website and put my own songs on myspace and start rolling again..he is ten yrs. younger than I and says fuck the bussiness and me being 48 yrs of age…I guess you could say I am aging slowly something I got from all of the meds and Rock and Roll..God Bless You and I hope that my husband and I will be able to come and see you play! Strange but I had to say this to you for some reason and I don’t like to type letters and send them off via email! I am a firm believer that people just don’t read them. I am glad to say I have been married now for ten yrs and we celebrated our tenth yr annerversary and he started one of my dreams which was to have a 3 carot diamond and now the rest is up to me and try to find someone in this bussiness who would take the time to listen to my songs and help me get my foot into the world of rock! I am not looking for sorrow I live each day with laughter and yet I to had to go through IVF I am not allowed to have our time to have the 3 embryos put into my body due to the fact of what I have been through! To many operatons a half of pancreaus and a mesh to hold my organs as well as having to be on medication for the rest of my life. My husband I feel I am robbing him of him to be able to carry on the tree of life and yet he looks at me everyday and says he loves me! I guess thats what it is all about…I love him with every fiber of my being.. Well, enough of this I am going on the bike and hold onto the man and get to the Topfield Fair and eat some cotton candy the whole 129 pounds of me now and enjoy my funkie hair I have back!! Rock on and Bless You and your wife and son and your dreams….

Hi Mike, I found out about LHS through Nick and Glenn, and have kept up with all the reports and podcasts religiously, and I just want to say WOW and WELL DONE for all you have achieved! Your energy and enthusiasm is stunning, and your drive to help everyone else when you wouldn’t be blamed for just watching out for yourself is really inspiring. I’ve been through chronic illness myself, lost really close family members to cancer and had to watch too many others fight it, but you really make me feel like your foundation will make a difference in this fight. Take care of yourself (and the boys
and I’m sending all the good thoughts and healing wishes I can… all the best, Paula x
